Kidney stones form when salts or other minerals in your urine bond together and form hard deposits or crystals. They can vary in shape and size, and may grow to be quite large. In some cases, stones stay in the kidneys and cause little or no symptoms, while others may pass through the urinary tract. This can cause painful symptoms as the stone moves through the ureter. There are many symptoms for kidney stones, including: painful urination, severe pain in the side of the back or groin area, blood in urine, and/or foul smelling urine and fever.
Kidney stones can affect both men and women, and certain people are more at risk for developing stones. If you are suffering from kidney stones, Dr. Hoofnagle will help you decide the best treatment option, including surgical intervention.
Each year, millions of people are affected by bladder control problems and urinary incontinence. Both of these conditions can be embarrassing and hard to talk about, but leaving them untreated can interfere with your quality of life. There are several types of urinary incontinence including: overactive bladder, stress incontinence, urge incontinence, overflow incontinence, total incontinence, and mixed incontinence conditions. Urinary Incontinence can be caused by a number of factors including: neurological conditions, spinal cord injuries, diabetes, prostate conditions and more.
It may be difficult to open up about urinary problems, but Dr. Hoofnagle and our staff will work with you to alleviate your symptoms and improve your quality of life. We will explore the available treatment options and help you resume your daily activities without interruption.
The prostate gland is located at the base of the penis, in front of the rectum and just below the bladder. It is responsible for the secretion of the milky fluid in semen needed for ejaculation. It is normally the size of a walnut. Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer among American men. As a man ages, the risk of prostate cancer increases. Before age 85, it is estimated that one out of every 6 American men will develop prostate cancer. While the cause of prostate cancer is unknown, there are a number of factors that contribute to a higher risk, including family history and African American race.
There are many symptoms associated with prostate cancer including: painful or burning urination, weak or interrupted urine flow, blood in urine, loss of appetite and weight, painful ejaculation, and continuing pain in the lower back, upper thighs, or pelvis. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, we recommend being checked by a physician. If you or a loved one develops prostate cancer, we will work with you to determine the appropriate treatment plan to remove or kill the cancer cells.
Bladder cancer typically develops in individuals over age 55, although it may occur in adults of any age. The most common common type of bladder cancer develops in the lining of the bladder. In its early stages, there may be no symptoms of bladder cancer, and a number of factors can increase your risk of bladder cancer. These include: smoking, chronic bladder inflammation, exposure to industrial chemicals, and radiation therapy for other cancers. Age, family history, race, and sex are other risk factors.
The most common type of kidney cancer, renal cell carcinoma (RCC) affects the urine producing portion of the kidney. It affects about 32,000 Americans each year, and when caught early, it responds well to treatments. There are a number of common risk factors associated with RCC including: age, sex, race, family history, smoking, and obesity. In its early stages, renal cell carcinoma has no symptoms. It is sometimes found during an ultrasound or CT scan that is conducted for other reasons. The most common signs of more advanced RCC are blood in your urine, flank pain, and weight loss.
Men aged 15 to 25 years are at the highest risk for developing testicular cancer. Early detection is key. When testicular cancer is found and treated early, 95% of cases can be treated successfully. Most testicular cancer are found during an annual physical with your doctors or during a self exam. If you find a suspicious lump or mass in your scrotum or pain or discomfort in your testicles, is is important to talk to your physician.
If you are diagnosed with testicular cancer, Dr. Hoofnagle and our staff will work with you to determine the best treatment options and develop a care plan for you. We are dedicated to giving you the best possible outcome and care about helping you restore your health.
If you are experiencing recurring issues achieving and maintaining an erection our doctor and staff are here to help. Erectile dysfunction (ED) is an emotional and private condition that may be difficult to discuss. It can affect you physically and psychologically, so we work with you to determine the appropriate ED treatment needed to resume a normal healthy sex life.
Developing Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) or an enlarged prostate is common as men age. This can cause changes in bladder function and affect the flow of urine from the bladder through the urethra. Symptoms for an enlarged prostate include: frequent need to urinate, nocturia, overactive bladder, weak urine stream, and blood in urine.
About one half of men with an enlarged prostate will need treatment. If you are diagnosed with an enlarged prostate, we will determine the best treatment options depending on the severity of your symptoms.
A urinary tract infection (UTI) is caused by bacteria and germs overcoming your body’s natural defenses and causing an infection. The urinary tract is your body’s system for removing extra water and waste. A UTI is the second most common type of infection in the body. Women have a greater lifetime risk of developing a UTI, although everyone has some risk of developing this type of infection.
UTIs are typically treated with antibiotics. Together with you, we will determine which medications will help treat your condition and restore your health.
Our surgical procedures are performed in a Freestanding Ambulatory Surgical Facility accredited by The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), with on-site anesthesia services provided by certified anesthesia providers. We are proud to have met the highest standards in patient care required for AAAHC accreditation.
